Number of Awards & Eligibility: 120 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time or part-time student.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must send application and supporting materials to the LULAC council in his/her town. If there are no LULAC councils in the applicant's state, then the student is ineligible.
  6. Must be a Hispanic student.
  7. Must score a 23 or higher on the ACT OR an 1100 or higher on the SAT.
  8. Must have applied to or be enrolled in a college, university, or graduate school, including two-year colleges or vocational schools that lead to an associate's degree.

Description: High school seniors who are Hispanic and residing in a state with a LULAC council are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and have an ACT/SAT score of 23/1100 or higher.

Additional Information: Each student is eligible for one of three awards: the National Scholastic Achievement Award, for students with a grade point average of 3.5 or better, an ACT score of 29 or higher OR an SAT score of 1350 or higher; the Honors Award, for students with a grade point average of 3.25 or better, an ACT score of 23 or higher OR an SAT score of 1100 or higher; and the General Award, where grades and academic performance will serve as indicators of potential; however, emphasis may be placed on the individual's motivation, sincerity, and integrity, which can best be revealed through a personal interview and in the personal essay. Need, community involvement, and leadership activities will also be considered. A student will not be eligible for a scholarship if he/she is related to a scholarship committee member, the council president or an individual contributor to the local funds of the council.

Award Amount: $250 to $1,000 annually for General Award recipients, $500 to $2,000 annually for Honors Award recipients, and $2,000 for National Scholastic Achievement Award recipients. All awards are non-renewable. Awards of $500 and under are disbursed on July 15; awards over $500 are disbursed in two equal payments on July 15 and Jan. 15. All awards are sent to the local LULAC Councils for distribution to recipients. Scholarships may be used for the payment of tuition, academic fees, room, board, and the purchase of required educational materials and books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,292.

Applications are available online from the LULAC website by clicking on the link 'Scholarship Information' on the right side of the screen, or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the address provided. In addition to the completed and signed application, each student must submit verification of admittance or enrollment from the institution he/she is currently attending or planning to attend (i.e. letter of acceptance from a college or university, letter from the registrar or transcript); and a typed or neatly printed personal essay of not more than 300 words discussing the topic listed on page four of the application. A student applying for the National Scholastic Achievement Award or the Honors Award must also submit high school or college transcripts with most recent grade point average, and a copy of his/her ACT or SAT score report (entering freshmen only). All applications and supporting materials must be mailed to the applicant's local LULAC council and must be received by the deadline date. A listing of participating councils and addresses is available online. Under no circumstances should applications for the LULAC National Scholarship Fund be mailed to the national office. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
