Number of Awards & Eligibility: One renewable scholarship will be given. The number of all other awards varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants. All members that apply and meet the requirements will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Please note: Students with a higher grade point average are eligible for a greater award amount.
  3. Mus be a youth member and policy holder in good standing of the Luso-American Fraternal Federation. Please note: Students with two or more years of membership and/or service as an officer or significant involvement in the Fraternal Youth Council are eligible for a greater award amount.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior planning to enter a four-year college or university or junior college or trade school. Please note: Students entering a junior college or trade school are eligible for only the $500 and $300 scholarships.

Description: U.S. students who are members of the Luso-American Fraternal Federation are eligible to apply for this award. Students must be graduating high school seniors with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the Luso-American Fraternal Federation (LAFF) Youth Member Scholarship – Category A-1 are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letters (3)
  • Official Transcript
  • SAT/ACT scores (if applicable)
Additional Information: The candidate will be selected by the LAEF Scholarship Committee.

Award Amount: One award of $1,000 annually, renewable for three additional years, will be offered to the candidate who meets the additional requirements listed in the scholarship guidelines. $1,000 non-renewable awards will be offered to all members that apply and meet the additional requirements listed in the scholarship guidelines. $750 non-renewable awards will be offered to all members that apply and meet the additional requirements listed in the scholarship guidelines. $500 non-renewable awards will be offered to all members that apply and meet the additional requirements listed in the scholarship guidelines. $300 non-renewable awards will be offered to all members that apply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available by clicking on the 'LAFF (Member) Youth Scholarship' link. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: an official high school transcript; SAT and/or ACT scores, if applicable; letters of recommendation to be submitted directly from three individuals who can speak to his/her character and/or financial needs; a 'Report on Applicant' form (provided as part of the application) completed by high school staff; and a recent wallet-size photo (no copies). All application materials must be mailed to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
