Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must plan to pursue a career or profession related to law enforcement.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must attend a Maine high school.
  6. Must be a graduating high school senior at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine high school seniors who are planning to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Application requirements for the Maine Chiefs of Police Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: This scholarship is sponsored in memory of Thomas J. Landers and Charles H. Jackson for years of service to law enforcement. Awards will be announced at the end of May.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online on the Maine Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a statement of no more than 300 words indicating what area of law enforcement he/she wishes to pursue as a career and why he/she chose that area; evidence of his/her education history from ninth grade to date of the application, signed by the proper school authority, showing the grades received in number only (not credits or letter codes); and three letters of recommendation covering character, personality, and scholastic ability (one each from a high school administrator, member of the teaching staff, and employer, if applicable). Each letter must be confined to only side of an 8" x 11" page. The application form and all supplemental materials should be in the order listed on the application. All materials should be place in a binder or cover. Spring, clear, or bulky covers are least desirable. Typed applications are preferred over handwritten ones. All entries should be submitted to the address provided. Applications must be mailed; no electronic applications will be accepted.
