  4. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.

Description: U.S. students who are residents of Maine planning to enroll as college freshmen are eligible for this award.

Application requirements for the Mainely Character Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Mainely Character Scholarship was developed by a group of concerned Maine business people in 2000. It provides scholarship funds to Maine students seeking postsecondary education. The goal is to reward Maine students who have demonstrated a continuing commitment to character and self-development. The core principles of the Mainely Character Scholarship Program are: courage (taking risks and following his/her conscience with fearlessness), integrity (being truthful and trustworthy to oneself and others), responsibility (conveying an attitude of commitment and conviction), and concern (demonstrating compassion and a caring attitude towards others and helping them to achieve their best). The Mainely Character Scholarship Committee will screen all applications and select applicants for personal interviews (by phone or in person). References will be checked. All applicants will receive notification of a decision by June 1.

Award Amount: $5,000 for first place, and $2,500 for second. All awards are provided annually, and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.

Applications are available on the Mainely Character website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit a 500-word essay addressing the topic on the application. The application and essay must be saved as a PDF file and sent to Mainely Character using the email address provided and must be received by the deadline date.
