Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, based on available funding and the number of eligible students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of and have parents who are residents of Maryland.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must graduate from a Maryland high school.
  4. Must have a cumulative, unweighted grade point average 2.5 or higher and complete a college preparatory program.
  5. Must plan to attend a Maryland two- or four-year college or university.
  6. Must plan to enroll full time.
  7. Must demonstrate financial need.
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  9. Must be a graduating high school senior during the current or previous academic year.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Maryland high school seniors who will complete a college prepatory program and are planning to attend college an eligible college or university in Maryland. Students must meet specific family income requirements and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the Maryland Howard P. Rawlings Guaranteed Access (GA) Grant are:

Additional Information: Applicants must begin college within one year of his/her high school graduation from a college preparatory or articulated technical preparatory program. Students who graduated prior to the current year must attach a letter indicating why he/she did not enroll in college directly after high school.

Award Amount: Award amounts range from $400 to $16,500 annually. Awards are renewable for three additional years provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress and files the FAFSA each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $9,216.

Applications are available online at the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) website. In addition to the completed application, students must submit official transcripts reporting grades earned through the first semester of his/her senior year. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Students are encouraged to apply by March 1. Applications submitted after March 1 will be considered as long as funds remain available.
