Number of Awards & Eligibility: 11 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must plan to study or be studying in Hawaii.
  6. Must be of African-American descent.
  7. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are of African-American descent and studying at a college in Hawaii. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: *Please note: Applicants for this scholarship do not have to be residents of Hawaii. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $11,000.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit wthe provider's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed online; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All supporting materials must be postmarked or hand-delivered on or before 5 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
