Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a senior in high school accepted for enrollment at an accredited college, university, or community college, or a student currently enrolled in such an institution.
  4. Must pursue a course of study related to agriculture or agribusiness. Students must demonstrate a strong interest in and intention of entering a career in agriculture or a closely related field upon graduation.
  5. Must be a full-time student and complete at least 12 hours per semester to qualify for and maintain the scholarship.
  6. Must have strong academic credentials as measured by class rank, grade point average, and test scores.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors and currently enrolled college students who plan to pursue or are pursuing a course of study related to agriculture or agribusiness on a full-time basis. Selection will be based on academic qualifications, community and school involvement, and leadership potential.

Additional Information: Qualified applicants will have strong academic credentials as measured by class rank, grade point average, and test scores. Demonstrated leadership qualities, particularly in agriculture and community-based extracurricular activities, will also be considered. The applicants' character, reputation, and integrity, as demonstrated in school and in their personal lives, will be assessed via references and/or direct inquiry. Selection will be made by the Board of Directors of the Foundation. It is possible that personal interviews will be requested of applicants. The Board is not committed to a specific number of scholarships or a particular dollar amount to award. Rather, each successful applicant will be reviewed individually and an offer made based on the Board's assessment of qualifications. Dependents of the Members of the Board of Directors or the Executive Director of the Foundation are not eligible.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually; successful applicants may anticipate a minimum of $1,000 per academic year. Higher amounts may be issued at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. Scholarships will generally be issued on an annually renewable basis. In order to qualify for continuing awards, the student must maintain a cumulative grade point average acceptable to the Board. Successful applicants will also be asked to submit periodic written reports of their progress.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Murray Wise Associates (MWA) website. Applications must be completed via the MWA online application system. Students must sign up with their email address; they will then be emailed an application code to use to log in and access the application. The application process consists of approximately 40 questions about the student, followed by 5 short answer questions. The application takes approximately three hours to complete, and can be completed in phases. Each applicant will provide a copy of his/her most current academic transcript, a resume of community involvement, and two references attesting to character and capacity to excel in the field of agriculture. The student may use his/her application code to retrieve an unfinished application. Applications must be completed by the deadline date. Partial applications will not be considered.
