Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, six scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of the Upper Midwest area, including Minnesota, North or South Dakota, western Wisconsin and northern Iowa.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must enroll full time at a four-year college or university.
  7. Must pursue a career in broadcasting, television or electronic media.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. high school seniors who are residents of the Upper Midwest area, including Minnesota, North or South Dakota, western Wisconsin and northern Iowa. Students must pursue a career in broadcasting, television or electronic media and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the NATAS Upper Midwest Chapter Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: Great emphasis is placed on the essay section and the non-academic activities of the applicant. Often, the letter of recommendation and the student's essay has been the determining factors in the decision whether or not to award a scholarship. Recipients will be announced in March.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship must be used for tuition. It is contingent on acceptance for admission, and will be issued directly to the college or university the recipient will attend.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Upper Midwest Chapter website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit an essay addressing the topic listed on the application and a letter of recommendation. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online and must be received no later than the deadline date.
