Number of Awards & Eligibility: Number of awards may vary each year. In 2020, 12 receipients were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a family member or employee of a herd on DHI test, OR a family member of an employee, or an employee of a DHI affiliate. The DHI affiliate for the herd or affiliate employee must be a member of National DHIA. A list of National DHIA affiliates is available on the application.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at time of application.

Description: This award is available to U.S. student employees and family members of employees of the National Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) and its affiliates.

Additional Information: Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of scholastic achievements and leadership in school and community activities. Recipients will be announced at the National DHIA annual meeting. Previous National DHIA scholarship recipients are not eligible.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available on the National National Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) website. A completed application will include the following: a listing of the student's school activities, accomplishments and leadership activities; a listing of his/her community memberships and activities; any work experience; a listing of all academic honors and awards; and short answers to the five listed questions on the application. The student must also provide the name and contact information for three references and submit two essays (each 250 words or less) addressing two of the available topics listed at the end of the application form.
