Number of Awards & Eligibility: A total of 600 awards will be offered this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for students in the U.S.
  2. Must be a current high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must be a member of the National Honor Society.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Description: High school seniors who are members of the National Honor Society and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must be nominated by active chapter advisers.

Additional Information: NASSP has awarded the NHS Scholarships since 1946, providing more than $10 million in scholarships to outstanding NHS members. Several profiles of the 2016 winners will appear in upcoming issues of Leadership for Student Activities magazine. Students are selected for the scholarships based on demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, and character, plus are required to write a narrative in response to a selected question. Each affiliated NHS chapter may nominate two seniors to compete for the national awards. These two seniors should be presented with the certificates of merit. NOTE: Only member schools with active NHS chapter affiliation may participate in the scholarship program. March 2023: Applicants receive notifications April 2023: Trailblazing Leadership Week, All-expense paid trip to DC for top 25 scholarship finalists and their advisers

Award Amount: One national winner will receive $25,000, while four others will receive $10,625 for embodying each pillar. In addition, 20 finalists will each earn $5,625 scholarships and 575 semifinalists will receive $3,200 scholarships.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000,000.

Additional information regarding this award is available online at the link provided. NHS Advisers may access the scholarship information and forms in the Adviser Zone of the website, www.nhs.us. Only chapter advisers have access to the scholarship materials. Complete instructions and forms can be downloaded by logging into the adviser zone. Scholarship packets are no longer mailed to schools. Each affiliated National Honor Society (NHS) chapter may nominate two seniors to compete for the national awards. Nomination materials must be completed by the deadline date.
