Northern California Asian Peace Officer's Association (NCAPOA)

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two to four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to major or be majoring in law enforcement.
  3. Must be a full-time student.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: This award is offered to full-time students planning to major in law enforcement or a related field. Students must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher to apply, and do not have to be of Asian descent.

Additional Information: This fund was established by the family of Ronald Tsukamoto, a Berkeley police officer who was slain in the line of duty in 1970. When selecting recipients, the NCAPOA Scholarship Committee renders equal consideration to each applicant's academic/community affairs, merit, and financial need. Awards will be presented at NCAPOA's annual awards dinner. Please note: The student does NOT have to be Asian to apply for this award.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in December for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications may be requested from the provided email address. If the student cannot download the application, he/she may also send a SASE to the address provided to request one. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a certified copy of transcripts or report card/progress report; a list of all school/community activities he/she has participated in during the past two years; and an autobiographical essay of 500 words or more. This account should reflect the student's personality, aspirations and any additional information he/she deems relevant to the scholarship committee, including school/community activities in which the student has participated in the past that made a significant impact on his/her life. The student must also provide contact information for four references, two each of personal and professional references. The application should be typewritten or printed in black ink. The application and all supporting documents must be emailed to the address provided by the deadline date.
