In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, TN.
  2. Must be a high school student at the time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This essay contest is open to students enrolled at Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, TN. Interested students must contact the school guidance office or economics teacher for an application.

Application requirements for the Oak Ridge Rotary Club Brad Sturm Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: This scholarship was established in 1976 by Melvin and Fran Sturm to encourage Oak Ridge High School (ORHS) seniors to learn more about the economy of the United States and of other countries. Brad Sturm, a graduate of Oak Ridge High School, was a successful local businessman, a devoted family man, and a tireless community volunteer. In order to perpetuate the uniqueness this scholarship offers by providing both funding and a learning experience, in 2011 the program was transferred to East Tennessee Foundation, and aided by educational expertise provided by the Oak Ridge Rotary Club.

Award Amount: The amount of the award varies annually and has not been determined for the current application year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

For contest instructions, essay topic, and applicant cover sheet, interested students must contact Ms. Teresa Seals, Administrative Assistant at Oak Ridge High School (ORHS). She may be reached at the ORHS Guidance Office. Students may also contact Ms. Beverly Bauman, an ORHS Economics teacher. The applicant cover sheet and essay must be submitted to East Tennessee Foundation by Feb. 1.
