Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior who will be enrolled as a college freshman in the fall.
  4. Must plan to attend Ohio University.
  5. Must be a female.
  6. Must be attending a high school in the greater Cleveland, OH, area.
  7. Must be a resident of Ohio.
  8. Must have earned a cumulative six-semester unweighted grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  9. Must have an SAT score of 1140 or higher (critical reading and math combined) OR an ACT score of 25 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school senior women who attend a high school in the greater Cleveland, OH area. Students must plan to attend Ohio University and have an unweighted grade point average of 3.5 or higher and an SAT score of 1140 or higher or an ACT score of 25 or higher.

Application requirements for the Ohio University Women’s Club Freshman Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Selection for the award is based on the following: ACT/SAT scores, 45 percent; grade point average, 35 percent; and essay, 20 percent.

Award Amount: Awards can range up to full tuition. This award is non-renewable and is to be used for the recipient's freshman year of study only. Recipients of this scholarship may also be eligible for the OUWC Ruth Fowler Brown Upperclassmen Scholarship if a grade point average of 3.5 or higher is maintained. This scholarship can be used to fund the remainder of the student's undergraduate study at OU; the student must reapply each year. Recipients should contact the OUWC for more information.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,216.

Applications are available online on the Ohio University Women's Club (OUWC) website by clicking on the 'News' link or by contacting Karen Shallcross using the contact information provided. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: an official, sealed copy of her high school transcript that includes her unweighted grade point average; a copy of her ACT and/or SAT scores; and a five-paragraph essay of 500 words or less, double-spaced, which address the topics of leadership skills, service to her high school, service to her community, career goals, and reason(s) for applying to Ohio University (OU). The application and all supporting materials must be sent to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
