Order Sons of Italy in America

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately seven awards offered annually. Please note: One award winner will be named the Henry Salvatori Scholarship recipient. This student will be a high school senior who demonstrates exceptional leadership, distinguished scholarship, and a deep understand and respect for the principles upon which America was founded (liberty, freedom, and equality).
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a four-year, accredited academic institution for the fall term following application.
  4. Must be of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian American grandparent).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian American grandparent). Students must plan to enroll or be enrolled at a four-year accredited academic institution.

Additional Information: Applications are screened by education professionals and final selection is made by OSIA's National Education Committee. Scholarship winners only will be notified by May 1. Previous scholarship winners are not eligible.

Award Amount: $4,000-$25000  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $25,000.

Applications are available online on the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope; official transcripts from all institutions attended through December (must be stamped by the institution and in a separate, sealed envelope); official results from all standardized tests taken in the last five years, if not reported on a transcript; a current resume outlining extracurricular activities, work experience, volunteer service, and honors; two letters of recommendation from teachers, professors, or educational administrators; and a typewritten original essay following the specifications on the OSIA website (different essays required for each scholarship). Please note: The student may apply for multiple OSIA scholarships using one application. However, a non-refundable processing fee of $35 must accompany the application for each scholarship for which the student wishes to be considered (general study and Salvatori scholarships may be applied for together, with one application fee). This fee includes a one-year national at-large membership to the Order Sons of Italy in America and a subscription to Italian America magazine. The application and all required materials must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
