Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be interested in writing poetry.
  3. Must be a U.S. resident by October of the contest year.
  4. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: High school seniors and older students interested in writing poetry are eligible to apply for this award. To enter, students must submit one poem or series of poems that total three to ten pages in length. Two winners will be selected to win a first prize- $2,000 and a publication and second prize- $1,000 and a publication.

Application requirements for the Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry are:

Additional Information: No previously published works or works accepted for publication elsewhere can be accepted. Nimrod retains the right to publish any submission. If a student would like to be mailed the results of the contest, he/she must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with his/her submission. Results will also be posted on the Nimrod website.

Award Amount: First prize: $2,000 and publication. Second prize: $1,000 and publication.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

This is a poetry writing contest. The contest begins on Jan. 1, and all submissions must be postmarked by the deadline date. Each student must submit one poem or a series of poems that total three to ten pages in length with a cover sheet containing the major titles and subtitles, his/her name, full address, and his/her telephone and/or fax numbers. "Contest Entry" should be clearly indicated on both the outer envelope and the cover sheet. Each submission must also include a $20 entry fee (this includes a one-year subscription for two issues of the Nimrod International Journal). Multiple submissions must be sent in separate envelopes.
