Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two or more awards offered annually, depending on the availability of funding from donations.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student at the time of application.
  3. Must be a resident of Arizona.
  4. Must self-identify as either a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender person, or as a supporter of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for U.S. and international high school seniors who self-identify as a supporter of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people. Applicants must be a resident of Arizona and must demonstrate an interest in service to the GLBT community.

Additional Information: Outstanding graduating high school seniors and college students are encouraged to apply for the following scholarships offered through PFLAG Phoenix. All scholarships are open to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) individuals and to straight allies who have directly supported GLBT youth and/or the GLBT community. One award will be provided in honor of Boots and Ray Reed, long-time supporters and volunteers with PFLAG, who were among the first to open a chapter in Phoenix. An additional Legacy award will be provided, in honor of all those advocates for equality who have come before us, and in hopes of inspiring the next generation of egalitarian activists.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available at the Phoenix Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form, students must submit two letters of reference - one from a teacher or faculty member, and one from an individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts. All application materials and supporting documents must be emailed to the address provided above, and must be received by the deadline date.
