Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two to four awards available annually, depending on the availability of funding and the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must reside in Placer County, California.
  3. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  4. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or demonstrate history as a straight ally dedicated to advancing equality and LGBT rights.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors residing in Placer County, California. Applicants must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or must demonstrate a history as a straight ally dedicated to equality and advancing LGBT rights.

Application requirements for the PFLAG Placer County Chapter – Bob Wiseman Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Bob Wiseman Memorial Scholarship is provided annually by the Greater Placer County Chapter of PFLAG - an all-volunteer group of parents, family and friends of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people. Each year, students committed to equality are recognized and provided with assistance in funding higher education in the hopes that award recipients will continue to serve as a positive role model for other LGBT students and straight allies.

Award Amount: $500 to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available at the Greater Placer County chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form, high school transcripts, and a short essay response, students must submit two letters of reference - one from a teacher or faculty member, and one from an individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts. All application materials and supporting documents must be mailed to the address provided above, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
