Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually: one for piano, one for another instrumental performer, and one for a vocal performer.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Cumberland, York or Oxford counties in Maine.
  3. Must plan to be or be a music major in any accredited music school, college or university.
  4. Must be between the ages of 17 and 25.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must plan to begin his/her music program in the fall following application or be currently enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate levels.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Residents of Cumberland, Oxford, or York counties in Maine who are music majors and 17-25 years old are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Scholarships are awarded by performance audition.

Additional Information: Scholarships are awarded by performance audition. Contestants must perform at least two selections from two different periods: baroque, classical, romantic, and/or modern. The performance is not to exceed 15 minutes total. Music must be performed from memory. Applicants must provide their own accompanists. One published edition of the music must be provided for the panel of judges. Copied music will not be accepted. This year, three scholarships will be awarded. These are: The Emily K. Rand Instrumental Scholarship, the Lucia A. Wright Piano Scholarship, and the Barbara C. Littlefield Vocal Scholarship. The competition will begin in June 2, 2018, at Saint Luke's Cathedral, 143 State St., Portland, Maine. Contestants will be notified of their specific performance times in advance. Please note: Previous first-prize winners are ineligible to compete again.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The judges reserve the right not to award a prize, at their discretion.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available by contacting the scholarship chair using the contact information provided. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a non-refundable $30 entry fee; a transcript from his/her current educational institution; and a typed repertoire program in audition order containing titles, composer's name and dates, number of movement, and length of playing time for each piece. Please note that changes in program order will not be accepted on the day of the audition. The application and all supplemental materials must be sent to the address provided, postmarked by the deadline date.
