In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a direct descendant of the Rosewood families affected by the incidents of January 1923.
  3. Must attend an eligible Florida institution.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must enroll in a program of study leading to an undergraduate degree, a certificate, or a diploma.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate students who are considered a minority and planning to attend an eligible college or university in Florida. Priority will be given to direct descendants of African-American Rosewood families affected by the events of January 1923.

Additional Information: The Rosewood Family Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to direct descendants of Rosewood families affected by the incidents of January 1923 who attend a Florida state university, public community college or public postsecondary vocational-technical school. Funds for the Rosewood Family Scholarship are contingent each year upon the appropriations made available to the Office of Student Financial Assistance by the Florida Legislature. The postsecondary institution will disburse the scholarship to an eligible student each term after the end of regular registration, inclusive of the drop/add period. Awards are made for the first and second semesters, or the first, second, and third quarters or the equivalent of the regular academic year. Award Amount: Up to $6,100 annually. The amount of an annual award for the Rosewood Family Scholarship may not exceedthe amount of tuition and fees for 15 semester hours or 450 clock hours per term of undergraduate study.The scholarship is automatically renewable if the student completes the FAFSA each year and maintains a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Recipients are eligible to receive an award for a maximum of eight semesters or twelve quarters, or until receipt of a baccalaureate degree, whichever occurs first.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,100.

Applications are available from the Florida Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) website. Students must apply online by completing the Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA). Students should review and follow the detailed instructions listed on the OSFA website prior to beginning the application. As part of the application, students must provide copies of documents of ancestry. The application and required materials must be submitted by April 1. Applications received after April 1 will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis if sufficient funds remain. Please note: Students must also complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for this scholarship. The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA must be received by May 15.
