Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must plan to major in an environmental field such as recycling, land conservation, and ecological recovery.
  2. Must be a resident of Red Hook, New York.
  3. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for current high school seniors in Red Hook, New York. Applicants must plan to enroll in an accredited undergraduate program and pursue a degree in an environmental field such as recycling, land conservation, and ecological recovery.

Application requirements for the Ruth Oja Environmental Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Established by the Red Hook Town Conservation Advisory Council in honor of Ruth Oja, this scholarship is available to students who are residents of Red Hook, New York that are pursuing studies in environmental science; or a related discipline; or who have demonstrated a sensitivity to the environment through leadership/participation in pro-environmental programs like recycling, land conservancy, environmental cleanup projects, etc.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
