Number of Awards & Eligibility: One scholarship will be provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Ventura County, California.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate student.
  3. Must be majoring in science education or a related field that will lead to a career as a science teacher.

Description: The Science Matters Scholarship Fund is provided annually to residents of Ventura County who wish to pursue a career in science education. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and must be current high school seniors or undergraduate students.

Additional Information: The Science Matters Scholarship Fund is provided annually to residents of Ventura County who are planning to pursue a career as a science teacher. Applicants must be currently graduating high school seniors or enrolled undergraduates and must be majoring in or planning to major in a field related to science and education. Award selection will highly favor students with the strongest academic records as well as those who demonstrate a passion for science and teaching.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications for and additional details about the Science Matters Scholarship Fund are available online at the Ventura County Community Foundation website. To apply for this scholarship, students must complete all sections of the online application form. Applicants must also submit an original essay in response to the award's topic, as well as two letters of recommendation. At least one letter of recommendation must be submitted by a current faculty member at the school the student is attending. All applications and supporting documents must be received by the deadline date.
