Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must plan to enroll in a postsecondary program.
  4. Must reside in one of the following communities: Barrington, Brentwood, Danville, Dover, Durham, East Kingston, Epping, Exeter, Farmington, Fremont, Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kensington, Kingston, Lee, Madbury, Milton, New Castle, Newfields, Newington, Newmarket, Newton, North Hampton, Northwood, Nottingham, Plaistow, Portsmouth, Rochester, Rollinsford, Rye, Sandown, Seabrook, Somersworth, South Hampton, Strafford, or Stratham in New Hampshire; Berwick, Eliot, Kittery, North and South Berwick, or York in Maine.
  5. Must enroll full time.

Description: Residents of specific cities in New Hampshire and Maine are eligible for this award. Students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit and plan to enroll full time in a postsecondary program of study.

Application requirements for the Seacoast Scholars Program are:

  • FAFSA (SAR)
  • Application form
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Essay
  • Transcript
Additional Information: Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit. There is no specific income limitation; however, preference is generally given to applicants with the highest financial need. Students are selected to receive awards based on academic achievement, involvement in school and community activities, and work experience. An appraisal of the applicant’s abilities made by a teacher, employer or community leader is also considered. Finalists for awards will be contacted in mid-April to supply a copy of their school transcript. Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-May.

Award Amount: The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's Piscataqua Region provides over $100,000 annually in scholarship assistance to area students through this program.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,106.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF) website. The student should apply for this award using the NHCF online application. The student need only submit one online application for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. The student must upload the following supporting documents to the online application: an essay of approximately 500 words describing his/her education and career goals; an electronic copy of the confirmation page of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); the names and email addresses for two persons who can write letters of recommendation on his/her behalf; and an electronic copy of his/her most recent cumulative transcript (unofficial accepted). For this award, the student is also required to submit a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report), which is provided to him/her after the FAFSA is processed. If selected as a finalist, the student will also be required to a copy of the financial aid package offered by the institution to be attended. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. ET on the deadline date.
