In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be graduating from a high school or any state (community) college in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, or DeSoto counties.
  4. Must plan to pursue a bachelor's degree on a full-time basis at an accredited college, but cannot be currently enrolled.
  5. Must be a resident of Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, or DeSoto counties in Florida.
  6. Must be a graduating high school senior or associate degree student.

Description: Residents of Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte or DeSoto counties who are graduating from a high school or community college in those counties are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Selby Scholars Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Applications will be processed during April and May. Semi-finalists for the Selby Scholars Program will be scheduled for an interview during May with final notification of awards sent by June 30. Scholarships awards are based on: demonstrated financial need; grade point average; SAT/ACT scores; evidence of growth potential, which is assessed through the letters of recommendation (should describe the student's active participation in school and/or community activities, and/or active employment to support self and/or family); perspective on personal values and future plans as described in the student's essay; and a personal interview. In order to enhance the impact of being a Selby Scholar, each recipient will be expected to attend the annual Selby Symposium conducted during the December/January holiday break.

Award Amount: Up to $7,000 annually, renewable for an additional three years. Please note: The scholarship will not exceed one third of the student's financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,000.

Applications are available online on the Selby Scholars website. In addition to the completed application, each student is required to submit the following: an official transcript; official SAT/ACT scores; a recommendation from a current teacher ; two recommendations from members of the community; and his/her and his/her parents' prior year IRS tax returns. Each student must also submit his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is generated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All applications and supporting materials must be completed online and submitted by to 5 p.m. EST on the deadline.
