Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a caregiver for a parent, family member, or other disabled household member.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must be a resident of Pinellas County, Florida.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors who have acted as a caregiver for a parent, family member, or other individual. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship is provided annually by the The Palms of Largo to recognize local area students who have experience caring for the medical and every day needs of a parent, other family member, or another individual living within the applicant's home.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Pinellas Education Foundation website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, students must complete an online application form consisting of 12 steps. Completed applications will include information about the following items: the student's academic record; participation in community, service, and extracurricular activities; financial need as detailed in the Student Aid Report obtained by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); information about subjects the student is interested in through a list of prospective majors; as well as the names of any colleges or universities the student has applied to or been accepted to. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Students applying for the St. Petersburg Caregivers Youth Scholarship must also submit an additional 500 word essay addressing the topic: "Your responsibilities of being a youth caregiver and how the experience affected your life and future goals." This essay must be emailed to [email protected] by January 31st subject line should read "Caregiver Youth Scholarship. All applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
