  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must reside in Pinellas County, Florida.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must express an interest in political science.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors in Pinellas County, Florida who demonstrate a love for politics and public participation through a record of leadership and involvement in political causes and civic organizations.

Additional Information: Provided each year by the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club, and in memory of Dorothy Walker Ruggles, this scholarship is awarded to a high school senior in Pinellas County who exemplifies Dorothy's love of democracy, political activism, and public service. Selection will favor students who demonstrate a true passion for politics through leadership experience and participation in local civic organizations.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Pinellas Education Foundation website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, students must complete an online application form consisting of 12 steps. Completed applications will include information about the following items: the student's academic record; participation in community, service, and extracurricular activities; financial need as detailed in the Student Aid Report obtained by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); information about subjects the student is interested in through a list of prospective majors; as well as the names of any colleges or universities the student has applied to or been accepted to. The student's academic information may be sent directly from his/her high school. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
