Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must be a high school senior who will be enrolling at a college or university for fall term.
  5. Must be enrolled in high school in Michigan.
  6. Must pursue an engineering degree at a university or college with an ABET-accredited engineering program. A list of ABET-accredited programs is available online at main.abet.org/aps/accreditedprogramsearch.aspx.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to female high school seniors who are graduating from a high school in Michigan and planning to enroll in an ABET-accredited engineering program. Students will be judged on academic performance, the application essay, high school awards/honors, and high school leadership/activities/employment.

Additional Information: Scholarship selection criteria are as follows: academic performance, 10 percent; essay, 40 percent (grammar, spelling, neatness, creativity, and content considered); awards/honors, 20 percent; leadership, activities, and employment, 30 percent.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually. Scholarships are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available on the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Detroit Chapter website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: official high school transcripts; a one-page essay addressing the topic listed on the application; a one-page list of all honors and awards received during high school; and a list of the most important activities (community, church, school, sports etc.) in which she has been involved with during high school (limited to nine activities total). Please note: One section of the application must be completed and signed by the student's guidance counselor. Applications without a counselor signature will not be considered. Applications must not be stapled nor sent via certified mail. Applications may be mailed or emailed using the addresses provided. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline date if mailed or submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date if emailed.
