Additional Information: This scholarship is awarded in memory of Begonia Alvarez Fernandez. 'Bego,' as she was known to her friends, was the daughter of immigrants and was the first in her family to receive an undergraduate degree. She also earned two graduate degrees and worked as a school social worker and psychologist all while raising her own family. Her dedication to her family, the kids she helped and her love of learning are an inspiration to everyone she touched. In addition to her family and friends, Bego treasured two things in life: kids and education. This scholarship seeks to honor her memory and her values. Scholarships awarded will be made payable jointly to the recipient and the recipient's educational institution.
