In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must identify as a Black or African-American female
  2. Must be a high school senior in the United States Matriculating into a 4-year College or University
  3. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (weighted)

Description: The Family Matters' Scholarship is funded by the Fall 2019 initiates of the Nu Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The scholarship was established on the merit of providing additional resources to Black women who illustrate core values of Scholarship and Service, alike our beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's mission.

Application requirements for the The Family Matters’ Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Proof of enrollment
Additional Information: All application materials must be completed and submitted at once in a PDF file format. Incomplete applications and/or applications not following the requirements will be considered ineligible. We are not responsible for contacting applicants about missing materials. Award Amount: First place applicant will receive $1,000 and secone place applicant will receive $500  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

All applications and supporting materials must be submitted by the listed deadline. No late submissions will be accepted. Must show proof of college enrollment or schedule for Fall, cannot be an acceptance letter. Awards go out at the end of August or early September. Award notifications will go out on February 14th!
