Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in Union, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg in NC, or York SC.
  2. Must be accepted to or attending an accredited college or university.
  3. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be under the age of 21 at the time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for LGBT students residing in Charlotte, NC. Applicants must be accepted to or attending an accredited college or university and must be under the age of 21.

Additional Information: The scholarship fund of Time Out Youth was established in 2007 to provide financial support and encouragement to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) identified youth who are seeking to earn a two-year or a four-year undergraduate degree in the field of their choice. Applications will be evaluated based on academic merit, work history, financial need, and quality of recommendations.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Time Out Youth website using the link provided. To apply for this award, students must submit a completed application form as well as the following documents: an official transcript of all high school and/or college coursework completed; two completed recommendation forms completed by adults who are not related to the applicant; a copy of the student's FAFSA forms and documentation; a one or two page, typed personal statement describing the applicant's educational and career goals; and a typed, recent resume describing the applicant's work history, community service, and other experience. Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted by the deadline date.
