Number of Awards & Eligibility: All qualified students will be considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must designate the University of Iowa as his/her first choice of college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
  4. Must be a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.
  5. Must be an incoming first-year college student.
  6. Must plan to enroll full time.

Description: This award is available to U.S students who are recognized as National Merit Scholarship Program finalists. Student must have designated the University of Iowa as their first choice college.

Application requirements for the University of Iowa Provost Scholarship for National Merit Finalists are:

  • Application form
  • $40 app. fee
  • ACT/SAT scores
Additional Information: Additional information about the National Merit Scholarship Program can be found at www.nationalmerit.org/nmsp.php .

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years or until completion of a bachelor's degree (whichever occurs first) as long as the student maintains continuous full-time enrollment and remains in good academic standing.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Students must apply for admission to University of Iowa (UI) to be considered for this award. An additional scholarship application is not required. Admissions information is available online on the UI website at admissions.uiowa.edu/apply/first-year-student-application-process . In addition to the online application, the student must also pay the non-refundable $40 application fee and have ACT and/or SAT scores sent to UI directly from the testing agency. The deadline for admissions and scholarship consideration is March 1.
