Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must seek a degree in a field related to family and consumer sciences, including, but not limited to, food and nutrition, child development, housing and interiors, family studies, clothing and textiles/merchandising, family and consumer sciences education, or consumer studies. Please note: Preference will be given to students seeking a degree in family and consumer sciences education.
  6. Must be an incoming or current undergraduate or graduate student.
  7. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

Description: This scholarship is available for Vermont undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking a degree in a field related to family and consumer sciences. Students must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.

Additional Information: This scholarship was created to prepare individuals to become competent, confident, and caring in the management of their personal lives, families, and careers. Applicants must attend or plan to attend an accredited postsecondary school approved for federal Title IV funding, and must demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need, application documents, and a personal interview (if necessary). There are approximately 29 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: $500 to $750 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $625.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document. To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials. Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
