Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must graduate from a Baltimore city public high school.
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a resident of Baltimore, Maryland.

Additional Information: Walter G. Amprey, former superintendent of Baltimore City Public Schools, dedicated his career to educating children. This scholarship honors him and supports the efforts of Baltimore City Public School students to attend college. The applicant must demonstrate financial need and a record of academic achievement.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Information about and applications for the award are available at the online portal of the CollegeBound Foundation. To access the application for these awards, the student must first register an online account. In addition to completing the CollegeBound Foundation Competitive Scholarship Application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation; a copy of his/her college acceptance letter(s); a typed essay addressing the topic listed on the application (if applicable); community service verification(s) (if applicable); and a copy of his/her recent high school transcript, including the first semester of the senior year. Students applying for this scholarship must also attach the following documents for the purposes of determining financial need: a copy of his/her Student Aid Report (SAR) or a copy of his/her parents' most recent tax return; a financial aid award letter from the college he/she will attend (the applicant should send a copy of the financial aid award letter as soon as it is received); and a Maryland Higher Education Commission Financial Aid Award Letter (if applicable). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials must be received by the deadline.
