Number of Awards & Eligibility: As a result of participating in the youngARTS program, approximately 400 artists receive direct cash awards. Others are noted for their excellence through merit awards. In all, almost 10 percent of all the youngARTS program applicants receive some kind of award or recognition for their talents.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a talent for dance, jazz, film and video, music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, or writing.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be 15 to 18 years of age by Dec. 1, 2018 OR in grades 10 through 12.

Additional Information: Previous winners who have attended youngARTS Week are not eligible. However, students who have received Honorable Mention Awards or Merit Awards, as well as other participants who did not receive a youngARTS award, are eligible if they meet the age requirement. Students will be notified of the results. If they have been invited to participate in youngARTS Week, they will be given instructions. During youngARTS Week, finalists will participate in master classes, workshops, interviews, performances and exhibitions. The final judging will take place during this time and a panel of judges will determine cash awards.

Award Amount: youngARTS winners share over $500,000 in cash awards. The awards are disbursed as follows: Gold Awards - $10,000 annually, non-renewable. Silver Awards - $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Level I - $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Level II - $1,500 annually, non-renewable. Level III - $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The following award level receives a cash award but do not particpate in youngARTS Week in Miami, FL.: Honorable Mention Awards - $250 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,400.

Additional information and applications are available online from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) website. An eligible applicant may register online. A student may apply in one or more categories in up to 10 disciplines (dance, cinematic arts, jazz, music, design, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, or writing), but a fee is required for each category in which he/she applies. Online registration is $35. Each student will need the following information in order to register: a social security number, a valid credit card, and the names of two teachers who have had a profound influence on his/her artistic development. Specific instructions regarding the submission of discipline materials are available under the 'Students' tab . All materials must be postmarked by the deadline date. Audition and portfolio materials must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
