Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. All eligible applicants will be considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be in 11th grade or younger at time of application.
  4. Must be the dependent (child or step-child) of an eligible military member.
  5. Must base eligibility on one of the following: any service member who has been killed or disabled with a service-connected disability from the VA (the disability rating must be at least 10 percent); a veteran who died from any cause while such service-connected disability was in existence; any service member who is currently classified as a POW or MIA; a service member missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force; a service member forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government or power; a service member who has received a Purple Heart Medal (may be active duty).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Additional Information: This program is a college scholarship that is awarded now but used in the future when the awardee begins college or other types of accredited postsecondary education. Applicants will be notified via email regarding award decisions by the end of June each year.

Award Amount: Each Future Use Scholarship awarded will be at the current value of the Immediate Use and Re-Apply Scholarship awards (currently at $5,000). This scholarship amount will be placed in a Folds of Honor Foundation (FHF) Future Use Scholarship account to be invested in accordance with the FHF-approved investment strategy. This scholarship is to be used for the student's first year of postsecondary education and is non-renewable. Recipients should apply for the Immediate Use Scholarship if they wish to receive additional funding for the rest of their education. Scholarships will be used to subsidize the cost of tuition, school books, fees and other educational expenses when the recipient is ready to attend a college, university, technical school or certification program. Each Future Use Scholarship recipient has until age 24 or six years after graduation from high school to use his/her award (whichever is greater).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in February for a refreshed application deadline date. Please note: The applicant must complete a pre-qualification questionnaire and register an account using his/her email address to access the online application. The applicant must upload documents proving the status of the military member under whose service he/she is applying (e.g., DD214, DD1300, Certificate of Retirement, M.E.B. or P.E.B., Certificate of Death, VA Disability Rating, Purple Heart Certificate). The applicant must also upload a document proving his/her dependent status (e.g., DEERS Report, Dependent Military ID, etc.). Issues with uploading documents should be addressed by calling Folds of Honor at the number listed. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
