Number of Awards & Eligibility: Twelve awards offered annually. Each grade level will be awarded a third-place, second-place and first-place prize.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be 13 to 18 years of age at time of application.
  3. Must live, work, or attend school in one of the following California counties: Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties or Pima County in Arizona OR be a member of Meriwest Credit Union or the child of an existing Meriwest member.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a student in grades nine through twelve at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: High school students who are 13 to 18 years of age and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must live or work in the California counties of Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco or in Pima County in Arizona, or be members of the Meriwest Credit Union.

Additional Information: The scholarship funds will be released at the time the award recipients are announced.

Award Amount: Scholarships will be awarded as follows: Senior level: $250, $500 and $1,000. Junior Level: $200, $350 and $500. Sophomore level: $150, $250 and $300. Freshman level: $100, $150 and $250. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $333.

Applications are available online from the Meriwest Credit Union website. Additional information about the award can be found by searching for "essay contest." If the student is not a member of the Meriwest Credit Union, he/she must complete a new membership application (available at www.meriwest.com/smartmove) and submit it with the scholarship contest application, along with a $5 non-refundable membership fee. In addition to the completed application, each student must request that his/her school submit a copy of his/her transcripts as verification of his/her grade point average and grade level, and a video on this year's topic. All application materials must be submitted by 5 p.m. PST on the deadline date.
