Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must reside in the United States of America.
  3. Must have a valid Social Security or tax ID number for tax purposes.
  4. Must be female.
  5. Must be currently enrolled in high school (grades 9-12).
  6. Must have a good academic history, typically a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  7. Must have a demonstrated, outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology/computing.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. female high school students who have a demonstrated outstanding aptitude and interest in IT/computing. Students must have a good academic history, typically a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Additional Information: Applicants must have demonstrated leadership ability. Students from underrepresented groups and current juniors/seniors are strongly encouraged to apply. Underrepresented groups in computing are persons with disabilities, African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. In addition to the National Aspirations Award program, there will be Affiliate Award programs in fall in 19 states & Puerto Rico in order to recognize even more young women. The application period is the same, and young women in those states will automatically be entered into both the Affiliate and National competitions. Affiliate Award prize packages will vary. Award selection notification will be made by approximately Dec. 1.

Award Amount: Each Regional Affiliate Award Winner and Honorable Mention receives: -recognition at a Regional Affiliate Award event -increased visibility in their school district and community -NCWIT resources and promotional items -an engraved award -eligible to apply for up to $750 in professional development funds In addition to the prizes listed above, each Regional Affiliate Award Winner receives a $250 Electronic Visa Gift Card. The National Award Winner receives a cash prize of $2,500 and an invitation to the 2021 NCWIT Summit on Women and IT  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

Applications are available online on the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) website. Applications are accepted between Sep. 1 and Nov. 5. The application must be completed online. As part of the application, the student will be asked to provide three short essay responses to the questions posed. Each essay is limited to 500 words or less. The student will also be asked to provide the name and contact information of her parent/guardian and an appropriate school official. The parent/guardian and school official must log in and endorse the student's application. The complete online application, including the endorsements, must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date.
