Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend the University of Maine.
  3. Must be a first-time, first-year undergraduate student who has selected University of Maine as his/her first-choice college during the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must plan to enroll as a full-time student in a minimum of 12 credits per semester in an approved undergraduate program.
  6. Must be a National Merit Scholarship finalist or semi-finalist.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors who plan to attend the University of Maine at Orono. Students must be National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists or finalists.

Application requirements for the University of Maine National Merit Semi-Finalists Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Official SAT and/or ACT scores
Additional Information: This award is given to National Merit semi-finalists who identify the University of Maine as their first choice of college.

Award Amount: $8,000 a year for four years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $32,000.
