Number of Awards & Eligibility: Sixteen awards offered annually. Six runner up and eight honorable mention awards will be given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be in grade nine through twelve attending a public, private, religious, or charter school OR be enrolled in a GED or correspondence school program OR be enrolled in a homeschooling program.
  4. Must be between 14 and 19 years of age

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. students aged 14 through 19 in grades 8 through 12 are eligible to enter this essay contest. Students must write an essay of no more than 800 words on the Bill of Rights.

Additional Information: Winners will be announced on the contest site in April.

Award Amount: 1st place- $7,500, five prizes- $1,500 each and 10 prizes at $500 each  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

Applications are available online from the Bill of Rights Institute website. This is an essay contest. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit an essay of no more than 800 words on the topic listed on the website. Applications and essays must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. PST on the deadline date.
