In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be 18 or older.
  2. Must pass a national service criminal history check.
  3. Must hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.

Description: VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is an antipoverty program that provides financial assistance to Americans 18 years and older in return for a year of full time service with an organization that works to overcome poverty.

Additional Information: Since 1965, over 220,000 AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program have joined the fight against poverty by helping local organizations expand their capacity to make change. The VISTA program serves in each of the 50 U.S. states and in all U.S. territories. Benefits include: • Living allowance • Professional development training • Non Competitive Eligibility • End of Service Award (choose between a Segal Education award of $6,000 to pay for a range of education expenses or a $1,800 cash stipend General Eligibility Requirements include: AmeriCorps VISTA provides opportunities for Americans 18 years or older from a diverse range of backgrounds to dedicate a year of full-time service with an organization (“sponsor”) to create or expand programs designed to empower individuals and communities in overcoming poverty
