Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a first generation college student.
  2. Must be pursuing an engineering or business degree.
  3. Must have a 2.5 GPA minimum.
  4. Must be enrolled full time.
  5. Must demonstrate a financial need.
  6. For California applicants, must be a resident of one of the following counties.
  7. Must be a graduate student.

Description: The TELACU Education Foundation combines important financial assistance with highly effective programs that aim to ensure students’ academic success. It was originally set up to revitalize urban, underserved areas throughout the US. Since 2007, TOYOTA has generously funded The David C. Lizárraga Fellows—an impressive cohort of graduate students. While priority goes to applicants pursuing advanced degrees in Business and Engineering, those majoring in other disciplines may also be considered. To date, hundreds of Fellows have been empowered to enter the professional world as highly educated doctors, researchers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and the innovators of our future!

Additional Information: Those interested in applying must meet the following basic qualifications: • Be a first-generation college student • Be pursuing an advanced degree in Business or Engineering (Students pursuing other graduate degrees may also be considered at the Foundation’s discretion) • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA • Be enrolled in a graduate program full-time for the entire academic year • California Applicants: Be a permanent resident of an underserved community within the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, or San Bernardino, such as East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Baldwin Park, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, City of Los Angeles, Montebello, Ontario, Pico Rivera, Pomona, South Gate, Santa Ana, and San Bernardino • Demonstrate financial need A select pool of applicants will be invited to interview, and will be ranked according to their ability to demonstrate a combination of the following: • Outstanding leadership potential • Remarkable record of professional/extracurricular achievement • Commitment to the development and economic empowerment of communities • Need for financial resources in order to successfully complete a graduate

Award Amount: Amounts vary.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
