Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a Wyoming resident.
  3. Must plan to attend one of the following eligible Wyoming institutions: Casper College, Central Wyoming Community College, Eastern Wyoming College, Laramie County Community College, Northwest Wyoming Community College, Sheridan College, University of Wyoming, and Western Wyoming Community College.
  4. Must be a first-generation American. For purposes of this scholarship, a "first-generation American" is someone who was born in the United States but whose parents were not born in the United States.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school senior OR be 18 to 22 years of age.

Description: This scholarship is available to Wyoming undergraduate students who are first-generation college students and planning to attend one of the state's seven community colleges or the University of Wyoming. Application requirements for the Douvas Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Peter George Douvas, an immigrant from Greece, outlined in his will that a scholarship be established by the Wyoming Department of Education with money he left to the department. A small committee within the Department of Education will make the final selection and notify the recipient and the recipient's high school. Winners will be notified no later than the last business day of May.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available from the Wyoming Department of Education website. The applicant should return the completed application to his/her school's counselor or principal by mid-April. The counselor or principal must complete the bottom portion of the application and then submit by mail, fax, or email using the contact information provided. The application must be postmarked or received by April 30.
