Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year Eight scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a legal military dependent.
  4. Must have a military parent.
  5. Must be between the ages of 13 and 18 at the time of nomination.
  6. The average nominee volunteered with service groups for an average of 75 hours during the year.
  7. The average nominee maintained above-average grades, often with honors.

Description: This award is open to children who are legal military dependents and between the ages of 8 and 18 at time of nomination. The average nominee has volunteered with service groups for an average of 75 hours yearly and has maintained above-average grades.

Additional Information: Military Child of the Year® Award recipients are the young heroes of their grade, school, town, or city. This award recognizes military children who have demonstrated themselves as exceptional citizens while facing the challenges of military family life. Recipients (along with an adult guardian) must be available to travel to the Washington, D.C. area in April 2020 for the Gala award presentation. If selected as a semi-finalist, the student will be required to provide proof of his/her military dependent status via a copy of his/her military ID or Form 1172 DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) application. The student will also be required to provide references and a high-resolution photograph.

Award Amount: Recipients will receive a $10,000 award and a laptop computer.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $80,000.
