Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be of Native or First Nations heritage.
  2. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
  3. Must be a resident of one of the following states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Alaska.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate at the time of application.
  7. Must demonstrate leadership in the LGBT community.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students of Native American or First Nations heritage who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). Applicants must demonstrate leadership and a commitment to community service and LGBT advocacy.

Application requirements for the Phoenix Two-Spirit Native & First Nations Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
Additional Information: All scholarships emphasize demonstrated commitment to human and civil rights for all people. The Phoenix Benner Native & First Nations Scholarship is awarded annually to recognize and financial assist LGBTQ Native and First Nations students who have demonstrated activism and/or leadership in the Native community.

Award Amount: Awards range from between $500 and $12,000 annually. All scholarships are provided on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.
