Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school junior planning to attend college.
  4. Must have a strong record of community service.
  5. Must demonstrate financial and/or personal need. Hamilton Friends serves students from low-income households. The applicant’s financial, family and community situation will be taken into consideration.

Additional Information: Winners of the Hamilton Award are enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy, joining a distinguished cohort of peers from across the US who learn from one another and grow together as they take steps towards a college education. The Hamilton Leaders Academy is a no student cost program that helps students gain acceptance to college and transition successfully to university life and the workforce. The first two years include an “academic-year” curriculum, running from September to April, with a week-long summer leadership institute called “Leader Week.” The academic year consists of individual support through email and phone calls, and group support through conference calls. The first year Leader Week takes place in New York City, and the second year concludes with a destination community service project experience. Applicants must show passion and commitment to their interests. This is often manifested in athletic, artistic or academic achievements. The applicant must demonstrate financial and/or personal need. Hamilton Friends serves students from low-income households. When choosing recipients, the applicant's financial, family and community situation are taken into consideration. Top applicants for the Hamilton Award will be interviewed via phone or Skype. Interviews will occur in late March to early April.

Award Amount: $500 cash annually, non-renewable. The winner will be automatically enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy and also receive the following: an autographed copy of Richard Brookhiser’s, Alexander Hamilton, American, an autographed copy of William Chrystal’s Hamilton by the Slice, proclamation signed by Doug Hamilton the fifth great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton, a Hamilton pin courtesy of the Hamilton family and letters of congratulations. Bio-sketches of winners appear on this website and news releases are sent to city, state, and federal elected officials as well as local newspapers.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online from The Alexander Hamilton Friends Association website. In order to access the application, the student must create a login using his/her email address and a password. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit: one letter of recommendation; a short 350 essay about him/herself; and a personal need assessment. Applications and the letter of recommendation must be received by the deadline.
