Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be majoring in horticulture. The student must also participate in extracurricular, leadership and research activities relating to horticulture.
  3. Must be enrolled full time (10 credit hours or more).
  4. Must be a college freshman or older for this undergraduate award.
  5. Must participate in university and community service.

Description: This award is available for full-time international and U.S students majoring in horticulture. Applicants must be nominated by the chair/head of the department in which they are majoring.

Additional Information: ASHS will award this scholarship to students that participate in extracurricular, leadership and research activities relating to horticulture and participate in university and community service. Applicants should have demonstrated commitment to a horticulture related career, and have some experience with horticulture. Notice of the award's recipients will be given in early May. Recipients will be recognized publicly as ASHS Scholars at the ASHS Annual Conference and are encouraged to attend to receive the scholarship.

Award Amount: $1,500 awarded annually, non-renewable. Recipients will also receive a plaque-mounted certificate.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

The applicant must be nominated by the chair or head of the department in which he/she is majoring, but only one applicant per department may be nominated. Each applicant must submit the online application form and the following supplemental materials: a 250-word essay that gives his/her reasons for interest in horticulture and for selecting his/her intended field of work on graduation from college; a complete resume/vitae; three letters of reference, at least one of which must be from his/her department head/chair or academic adviser; and a copy of official university/college transcripts. Please note: The letters of recommendation must be copied and pasted into the online application. The application form must be completed online with all listed supporting documents before the deadline date. Late and incomplete submissions will not be considered.
