Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO)

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  3. Must be an undergraduate student who has 12 or more semester credit hours.
  4. Must be enrolled in the field of transportation, engineering, planning, or a related discipline.
  5. Must have demonstrated leadership skills and an active commitment to community service.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. undergraduate students who are enrolled in transportation, engineering, planning, or a related discipline. Students must have demonstrated leadership skills and an active commitment to community service.

Additional Information: Winners will be notified by May 15. Selections will be made by a team of industry professionals and representatives from the academic community. Winners will be announced at the COMTO National Meeting and Training Conference Scholarship Luncheon on a date TBA in Boston, Massachusetts. Scholarship recipients may be asked to attend the National Scholarship Luncheon to be held on a date TBA at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, 50 Park Plaza at Arlington St., Boston, MA 02116.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online from the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) website. Please note: Students may submit one application to apply for all scholarships for which they are eligible. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a cover letter of 500 words or less which introduces him/her and states his/her transportation-related career goals and life aspirations; two letters of recommendation, one from a guidance counselor or advisor and one from a member of the academic community; his/her most recent transcripts; a current resume; and a 3x5 headshot photograph. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
