Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be enrolled in a North Carolina- or federally recognized tribe.
  4. Must have family residency in the state of North Carolina.
  5. Must demonstrate sustained involvement in the American Indian Community and commitment to American Indian concerns and initiatives.
  6. Must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution in the state of North Carolina.
  7. Must be a graduating high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award. The applicant must pursue a two- or four-year degree.

Application requirements for the North Carolina American Indian Fund Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Copy of tribal enroll. card
Additional Information: This scholarship is not available for students planning to enroll part-time or at for-profit or online institutions. There are no restrictions on area of study or geographic location of the school the student plans to attend. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on commitment to and plan to give back to the American Indian Community in the future; involvement in extracurricular, volunteer, and community activities, demonstrated financial need; and academic merit and performance.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Recipients will be eligible to re-apply for funding in future years, provided they continue to meet the eligibility criteria and submit all application documents.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Triangle Community Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a copy of his/her tribal enrollment card, official high school transcripts, an essay, and two letters of recommendation. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
