Number of Awards & Eligibility: Ten scholarships will be awarded in the current year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Somerset county in Maine for a minimum of one year.
  2. Must be active in community service.
  3. Must have demonstrated academic excellence.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior.

Additional Information: The Richard H. and Scottie Pierce Family Foundation Scholarship Fund was created by Richard and Scottie Pierce, formerly of Waterville, ME, to annually expand educational opportunities for Maine students who are planning to pursue their education at a two-or four-year accredited degree-granting college or university worldwide. Initially, the program will be extended to Somerset County students in recognition of that being the birth place of Mr. Pierce’s parents, Henry and Bea Pierce.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, renewable for up to a total of four years of undergraduate study.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

The student must include one recommendation letter from a high school or college official familiar with the applicant's academic performance and extra-curricular activities and one recommedation letter from a person with first-hand knowledge regarding the applicant's involvement in community service. Also, the student is required to submit an essay of 300 words or less explaining his or her educational goals and intentions and a statement of how this scholarship would make a difference in their ability to achieve these goals All applications and required documents must be submitted online before the deadline date.
