Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must be a resident of one of the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas panhandle.
  4. Must attend Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University.
  5. Must be employed part time while pursuing a college degree.
  6. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  8. Must exemplify leadership and community involvement.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Graduating high school seniors residing in one of the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas panhandle are eligible for this award. Students must plan to attend Amarillo College or Texas A&M University full time, and be employed part time while attending school.

Application requirements for the Robert A. ‘Bob’ and Margaret W. Kesterson Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • IRS 1040 Form
  • ACT/SAT scores
Additional Information: This scholarship was established in 1989 by Margaret Kesterson for working graduating seniors in the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle. Applicants must exhibit financial need and academic excellence. Recipients are selected by the Amarillo Area Foundation Scholarship Screening Committee.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable. Recipients must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher while in college and reapply annually for consideration.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online from the Amarillo Area Foundation website. Each applicant must create a login and password in order to access the online application. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit proof of U.S. citizenship or residency, official high school and/or college transcripts, ACT/SAT scores, a current IRS Form 1040, and two letters of recommendation. Some supplemental materials may be submitted in electronic format within the online application. If materials are not available in electronic format, they may be mailed or faxed using the respective mailing address and fax number. Applications and all supporting materials must be received by noon CST on the deadline date. Materials postmarked by the deadline date will also be accepted.
