Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Between five and ten awards are given for both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited four-year college or university.
  3. Must be enrolled in a chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, metallurgy or materials science program where the focus of the curriculum is in surface-science subjects.
  4. Must be a college junior or senior at time of application.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate students enrolled in a chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, metallurgy or materials science program where the focus of the curriculum is in surface-science subjects. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and enroll full time.

Application requirements for the AESF Undergraduate Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: A student may apply for any academic year when he/she will be an undergraduate of at least junior standing in a chemistry, chemical engineering, metallurgy or a materials science program where the focus of the curriculum is in surface-science subjects. Award selections will be based on, but not limited to, career interest in surface finishing, scholarship, achievement, motivation and potential. Awards are not necessarily based on financial need.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable. A scholarship holder may re-apply for a second year, but not for more than two years. Cash awards will be sent directly to the college or university, to be credited to the recipient's account. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to submit a report or paper at the conclusion of the award period.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online from the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers (AESF) website. The new deadline has not been announced as of yet and is based on last year's deadline.
